The Lost Filipino

Geopoet writes the realism of the political spectrum of the Philippines from the ground of the Filipino masses. It portrays the realistic views of the small people who felt they are wrought of mass poverty as a result of so much political squabbles and bickering both from the top and lowest echelon of their own government. This is their story...our own story and it starts now...

NATURE’S PLAGUE AGGRAVATED AILING ECONOMY AS POLITICS SOARS WITH DEATH

The year 2010 began with the plague of 2009 still on its gallows.

As 2009 posted a higher than expected budget gap, report says, the political situation is marred with the spate of political killings which numbered at 64 incidences already, and authorities are still expecting that more will be on statistics before the May 2010 elections end.

Besides, the dreaded El Niño is now sweeping part,  if not,  the whole country with the dry spell bringing down basic agricultural production lines to a considerably halt position or a temporary bailing out of artesian wells for acute water shortage from below.

In 2009, the Philippines was hit by 22 tropical cyclones, worst of which was Typhoon Ondoy that wrought havoc parts of Metro Manila with severe floods and rendered thousands of people homeless or suffered diseases. At this point in time, millions of pesos flowed in to charity. But then again, people don’t change in an instant event and are blaming one to another with cursing and accusing fingers.

Though media keyplayed in all charity activities in the whole country and of course, with media usual business earning millions of pesos, still their efforts is not keenly enough to catalyze change in a prolonged perspective, and instead their assisting hands left with more needy people hanging around and are expecting help.

As we also observe the local industries are swinging every bit of their investments and hang around to sustain the propeller of the whole economy machines and keeping them just still in business, the whole bureaucracy of governance is engaging in a political exercise with instruments of bad image and personality killing on a spree!  This event created great animosity among people and intensely corrupting  the whole culture of peaceful loving citizenry.

This political exercise has produced also a lot of political messiahs whose aims and ambitions is the rhetorical saga of how to get rid of poverty and alleviate people’s lives from its chronic sustenance from graft and corruption while utilizing every gainer tool and corner of political sectors as a banger of renewed awakening slits to catch the eyes of the observing citizenry. Millions of pesos in personality advertising rendered many media outfits as sustained key players in plotting the destiny of worthy, if not, unworthy or ambitious individuals, and this country. Thus, competition indeed brings out the best of everything, as they say it, but jokes are all around its curtain; and the idiot board is still white for writings.

Entrepreneurship, on the other hand, gained an upper pushing. As some enterprising people are wont to engage in small business ventures all over the country. Ordinary people are now learning the magic of business. Sari-sari stores thrive in every barangay and barbecue vending, halo-halo, ice cream and cake making, are few small business that can catch your attention, while handicrafts-making and others are making up their presence, though people most of the time prefer to buy a kilo of rice than a hand-made bag.

At this time, election and people behavior can be observed as they would certainly react to the political advertisements of the candidates. Whatever the candidates project for themselves is what their supporters will be; and whatever is the result of election will be the timbre of the whole culture of Filipino perspective can be. In other words, whoever is elected President is the Filipino psyche in itself. So, people is hopeful that their choice will be the correct perspective of what they can be.

Truly, no matter how chronic the nature or economic plague will be, the whole country is still more willing to sustain the icon that they are known, for the beauty of it is cultured by the sculpture of their own history as a nation and as a people.

Hurrah! Hurrah to a New Philippines!

No matter what, we are Filipinos of unique origin. I can live with that.
